The Senate yesterday approved the nomination of Naree Tantasathien, director-general of the Department of Legal Counsel, as the country’s seventeenth attorney-general and initial woman to hold the positioning.
From the 212 senators whom attended the conference, 205 voted to appoint her while seven abstained.
The Senate secretariat will ahead her name in order to His Majesty the particular King who will issue a royal control appointing her the particular replacement of Singchai Thaninson, who is due to retire.

Ms Naree, 63, graduated in law from Chulalongkorn University and is a Thai barrister-at-Law. She also earned a master’s degree in comparative law through Howard University, USA, a master’s diploma in international regulation from The American University, Washington DC, along with a master’s degree in international criminal cooperation from Vrije College in Brussels, Belgium.
She has served in the Department associated with Thonburi Criminal Litigation, the Office of the Attorney-General and the Department associated with Legal Counsel.
