Power crunch in China’s Sichuan province eases, says state media

BEIJING: A power crunch driven by drought within China’s southwestern state of Sichuan, the particular country’s biggest hydropower producer, has began to ease as temperatures fall, state mass media reported on Weekend (Aug 28).

Power to get ordinary industrial plus commercial users has been restored while that will for large commercial users will be steadily restored, except for extremely energy-intensive industries, condition media reported, citing the State Grid Corp.

A long drought across the Yangtze pot has crimped electrical power supply, prompting worries that China can suffer another disastrous power shortage.

But demand is easing as the letup in temperatures, which had exceeded forty degrees Celsius in several areas, has reinforced a surge in air conditioner use, state media said.

Sichuan generates 30 per cent of China’s hydroelectric power, generally delivering a massive strength surplus to the rest of the country.

But it is now receiving electrical power from other provinces right after weeks of minimum rainfall and extreme heat.
