Malaysia’s key political parties hold meetings amid signs of imminent general election

“While we have been gathered here these days, the other side (UMNO) is also meeting, to stress the prime minister to keep a general election earlier. Based on an agreement between PN and the perfect minister, and when the particular PM is choosing the date for that national polls to become held, he has to discuss with us, because we have been an important part of the govt. But I don’t understand if the prime minister remembers this agreement, ” said Mr Muhyiddin.    

“Regardless, we are ready to encounter the general election anytime. If tomorrow the particular PM meets the king to advise that parliament be blended, we are ready to enter the ring and earn the polls, ” added the former leading minister.  

Mr Muhyiddin retired as prime minister on Aug 16, 2021 after he failed to command most support of MPs, with Mr Ismail Sabri then taking over.  

Mister Muhyiddin added in his speech on Sunday that based on reports he had received, support for UMNO and the Barisan Nasional coalition was waning.  

“(Ahmad Zahid says) if BN waits until the coming year (to hold the GE), they may lose. But if it’s this year, god willing BN will forfeit as well, ” mentioned Mr Muhyiddin.  

In his speech at the same convention, PASSING president Abdul Hadi Awang urged PN component parties in order to shake off the coalition’s reputation as a “backdoor” government by successful big in the forthcoming polls.  

He also supported calls by additional member parties to mention Mr Muhyiddin because the coalition’s prime minister candidate if PN wins.  

“We take over to strengthen the government, set up PN and create Muhyiddin become EVENING, ” he stated in his speech.
