SCDF stands down search operation for missing worker at Keppel Shipyard in Tuas

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) upon Wednesday (Aug 23) said it has “stood down” its resources in the search operation for a worker who seem to fell into the drinking water after part of a concrete pier collapsed at Keppel Shipyard.

The crane was sitting on the pier when it collapsed on Mon, causing it to topple into a vessel that was berthed alongside the pier, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) spokesperson stated on Tuesday.

The particular 38-year-old Bangladeshi worker, who is employed by Kumarann Marine, was around the pier at the time. He or she fell into the ocean and is missing, mother spokesperson added.

The particular incident at 51 Pioneer Sector one of Keppel Shipyard caused the motorised hoist to be partially submerged under water.

SCDF said in a statement that it received a call for rescue on the location at about 12pm on Monday.

“Upon SCDF’s arrival, a shore crane has been found leaning towards a berthed vessel, ” it stated. “SCDF conveyed a couple to the National College Hospital.

“SCDF’s sources for the search procedure were stood upon Aug 23. ”
