Najib fails in final bid to overturn guilty verdict in 1MDB-linked case

The prosecution had wrapped up their submissions on Aug 19, with the prosecutor telling the court the combined roles played by Najib enabled him to implement his plan of benefitting from SRC International funds.

The apex court had last week denied Mr Teh’s request to release himself from representing the former prime ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) in his final attractiveness.

Mr Teh did not make a distribution during the Tuesday hearing.

The fees against Najib, that served as prime minister from 2009 to 2018, included the transfer of RM42 million through SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) into his individual bank accounts in 2014 and 2015.

He was found guilty on 3 counts of felony breach of rely on, three counts of money laundering and one rely of abuse of power by the High Court in Come july 1st 2020, and was sentenced to twelve years in jail and fined RM210 million.  

The conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal on Dec 8, 2021. Najib later submitted a petition of appeal to the Federal government Court on Interest 25 this year.

The Federal Courtroom had initially put aside nine days – Aug 15 in order to Aug 19 plus Aug 23 to Aug 26 – for his attractiveness. This is Najib’s last bid to overturn the guilty conviction.

The test proper however just started on Aug 18, after Najib’s lawyers had submitted several applications.  

On August 15, Najib sought to adduce brand new evidence in his attractiveness, but the five-man along with unanimously rejected the application form a day later.

The Federal Court also dismissed the request by Najib to adjourn the final appeal hearing.  

On Sunday, Najib took an Islamic oath in a mosque in Kuala Lumpur, where he swore on his innocence.
