EC prepares to answer petition on PM’s tenure

The Election Commission (EC) can answer a petition delivered by activist Srisuwan Janya searching for a Constitutional Courtroom interpretation of whenever Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will have served his optimum eight-year tenure.

EC chief Ittiporn Boonprakong stated yesterday the commission payment understands the issue has drawn public interest and the matter has been tabled for discussion tomorrow.

On Aug 5, Mr Srisuwan posted his petition towards the EC and the Office of the Ombudsman.

The latter declined the petition on Wednesday on the ground it has no authority on the matter.

Meanwhile, Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, a former election office, wrote on Fb yesterday that if the court rules that Gen Prayut reached the eight-year period limit on August 24, the leading cannot assume the particular role of caretaker prime minister.

He had been responding to comments by Deputy Prime Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) Wissanu Krea-ngam exactly who said he saw no reason why Style Prayut could not presume such a role unless of course a court individually ruled it away first.

Mr Somchai stated if the court guidelines his tenure finishes on Aug 24, it would preclude him from staying upon as caretaker.

Former primary minister Yingluck Shinawatra was also not allowed to assume the part of caretaker following a court ruling associated with abuse of expert, he said.

The House should now proceed with section 41 of the State Administration Act 1991, he suggested, and choose one from the deputy prime ministers to take the role instead.

Meanwhile, across the flooring, Pheu Thai Celebration MP for Ubon Ratchathani Somkid Chuekong also opposed the thought of Gen Prayut keeping on, even briefly.

“Taking the role of caretaker will only result in disunity. Everyone knows that Gen Prayut has exceeded eight yrs, ” Mr Somkid said.

“I suggest Gen Prayut take this chance to leave his posting with dignity. inch
