Arrested suspect said he had been relying on police to be busy elsewhere with long-weekend traffic

Police seized 100 kilogrammes associated with crystal methamphetamine in Pattani on Fri and arrested the suspect who reportedly said he had evaded arrest after taking part in an even bigger drug run four a few months earlier in Phatthalung.

Drugs suppression police imprisoned Imron or Lan Sani, 39, of Phuket at a safety checkpoint in tambon Tha Kamcham of Nong Chik region, said Pol Style Roy Ingkapairote, the deputy national chief.

Officers seized the suspect’s pickup truck containing 100kg of crystal methamphetamine. Another pickup seemed to be seized after it was abandoned by a 2nd suspect.

The arrest was the result of a follow-up investigation launched after officers seized 279kg of crystal meth in Phatthalung upon March 31, said Pol Lt Style Sarayuth Sanguanpokhai, commissioner of the Narcotics Reductions Bureau (NSB).

Following the seizure and the arrest of some of the alleged smugglers in Muang district of the southern state, NSB investigators learned that the gang that they belonged was planning to smuggle a lot more drugs into the Southern during the current lengthy holiday period.

On Fri they spotted the pickup with its bed covered by a tarpaulin trying to avoid the Koh Mor Kaeng security checkpoint in Nong Chik and was able to stop it. Research online found five fertiliser sacks containing packages of crystal meth in the bed from the pickup.
