SINGAPORE: People buying in Changi Airport will not have to pay Services and goods Tax (GST) in a number of stores in its public areas within 2023, the Changi Airport Group (CAG) said on Thursday (Dec 22).
The group may continue to absorb GST together with participating tenants in the year forward, it said within a media release.
GST in Singapore is set to increase through 7 per cent to almost eight per cent from January 1, 2023 .
To qualify for the GST absorption, shoppers have to be Changi Rewards members. Registering for the programme will be free, CAG stated.
The taxes absorption does not, nevertheless , extend to Jewel, restaurants, the Changi Eats online shipping service or non-participating stores such as grocery stores, CAG said.
CAG has been dealing with its tenants to the GST absorption effort since 2009.
On top of the GST absorption, shoppers may also get an additional eight per cent off their own purchases under the 2XGST promotion from January 5 to Jan 8 and Jan 12 to Jan 15.
The particular 2XGST promotion, that was first launched in Sept 2010, applies to transactions with a minimum net value of S$30 after deducting all other discount rates.
In addition , any customer that pays using Changi’s digital wallet Changi Pay will have a good S$8 Changi Pay return voucher acknowledged to their account.

This promotion runs through Jan 5 to Feb 5.
CAG’s General Supervisor for landside concessions Phau Hui Hoon said: “Shoppers may look forward to bigger financial savings when they shop from Changi during the 2xGST promotion in January.
