TOKYO: Hurricane Meari unleashed weighty rains on Japan’s main Honshu isle as it headed northward Saturday (Aug 13) toward the capital, Tokyo, according to Japanese climate officials.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said that Meari made landfall in Shizuoka Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, in the afternoon, bringing sudden heavy rains plus blasting winds to some widespread area, plus prompting warnings about mudslides and water damage.
More than seventy two, 000 people within the area’s main associated with Shizuoka were informed to evacuate because of possible landslides.
Meari, packing suffered winds of up to 72kmh, passed over Shizuoka and was touring at a speed of approximately 20kmh and had been expected to continue northward before veering eastward, swinging over the Pacific Ocean by earlier Sunday.
