Halloween stampede in Seoul injures dozens, several feared dead

SEOUL: Dozens of people were wounded and a number terrifying dead in a stampede in Seoul being a huge crowd poured into a central region of the South Korean capital for Halloween party festivities late on Saturday (Oct 29), the Yonhap news agency reported.

Fire government bodies were administrating CPR to at least 50 people in the Itaewon district as of eleven: 30pm (1430 GMT) on Saturday, according to the news agency. Many others were taken to nearby hospitals.

Choi Cheon-sik, an official in the National Fire Company, said around one hundred people were reported because injured during the audience surge Saturday night in the Itaewon amusement district and that about 50 were becoming treated for heart arrest as of early Sunday.

Choi said it was considered that people were crushed to death after a large crowd started pushing forward in the narrow alley near Hamilton Hotel, a major party spot within Seoul.
