Japan protests after Chinese missiles land in its exclusive economic zone

China is holding its largest-ever military exercises around Taiwan, which it considers the territory and has vowed to one day catch, by force if required.

The show of military may was sparked by US House Loudspeaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the self-ruled tropical isle, despite stern alerts from Beijing.

Pelosi’s plane touched down in Japan on Thursday for your final stop on her behalf Asian tour.

AFP reporters saw the aircraft land at Yokota Air Base in Tokyo, with Pelosi heading from South Korea.

Parts of Japan’s southernmost island region Okinawa are close to Taiwan. Kishi stated it was the first time Chinese ballistic missiles experienced landed in Japan’s EEZ.

The EEZ extends up to 200 nautical kilometers from Japan’s coastline, beyond the limitations of its territorial seas.

The amount of nine missiles fired was an assessment by the Japan side, Kishi said, adding that the five appeared to have got southwest of Okinawa’s Hateruma island.
