Singapore reports 13th case of monkeypox infection since June

SINGAPORE: The Ministry associated with Health (MOH) documented one more case of monkeypox infection upon Wednesday (Aug 3), bringing the total number of infections in the country given that June to 13.

From the 13 monkeypox instances announced in Singapore since June this season, five are brought in and eight are local. None of the cases so far are linked.

According to the Health Ministry, monkeypox is a viral ailment that is caused by illness with the monkeypox virus. It is typically a  self-limiting illness that will presents with temperature and rash. Nevertheless , serious complications or death can occur in certain individuals.

Individuals infected  usually experience fever, headache, muscle mass ache, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and lethargy.  

As the disease progresses, infected individuals develop a rash, usually starting from the face just before spreading to other areas of the body, including the palms plus soles.

Signs and symptoms may appear from 5 to 21 days following infection. These individuals are generally infectious from onset of fever until the skin lesions have scabbed over, said MOH.  

DEDICATED REMOTENESS FACILITY

On Monday, MOH said monkeypox cases evaluated by public private hospitals to be clinically stable will be transferred to a dedicated remoteness facility   where they will get access to round-the-clock telemedicine assistance.  

“These cases will recuperate in the monkeypox isolation facility until they are deemed to be non-infectious and fit meant for discharge, ” stated MOH.

Formerly, all confirmed cases of monkeypox had been isolated in private hospitals until they were non-infectious.

The pen period for near contacts of monkeypox cases has also been altered to 14 days, accompanied by seven days of overseeing for symptoms via regular phone calls.  

According to the  ask. gov. sg   website, those on phone surveillance can leave their home so long as they are well. They should contact a Wellness Ministry duty officer if they are unwell.
