19 people missing and one killed after after flash flood in Indonesia’s West Papua

After severe flooding swept through a&nbsp, a remote gold mining area in&nbsp, Indonesia’s West Papua province, one person was killed while 19 others were reported missing, according to officials in KARTA ( Bernama ).

Four others reportedly suffered injuries on Friday evening when floods swept through a temporary workers ‘ arrangement in Jim village, which is located in the Catubouw district of the Arfak Mountains regency.

According to National Disaster Management Agency ( BNPB) spokesperson Abdul Muhari, the flooding took place after a heavy downpour between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Around 9 p.m., waters from the inland area swept through a momentary negotiation used by conventional gold miners, destroying tents and putting aside tools, he said in a statement on Monday.

A combined search and rescue team was dispatched to the affected area, he claimed, but endeavors were hampered by poor communication and challenging terrain.

” The cooperative team on the ground is conducting intensive search for the 19 lost victims,” Abdul Muhari continued.

In northeast Indonesia, especially in mountainous areas like West Papua, flash floods and landslides are common during the rainy season. – Bernama
