Chinese retailer Don Don Donki announced on May 19 that it will resume selling plastic bags to customers who carry away their purchases seven weeks after stopping the price of plastic bags. &nbsp,

Don Don Donki will start selling biodegradable plastic bags in its stores as soon as they are available for$ 5 each.

It stated in a Twitter post that it wants to better meet the needs of its users while still” committed to its economic responsibilities.” &nbsp,

Additionally, it stated that the eco-friendly carriers have been specifically made to naturally break down over time, reducing the environmental impact.

Customers will be able to take their products” with a greater peace of mind,” it continued.

In the Facebook post, the shop stated that it does continue to encourage its customers to bring their personal reusable bags wherever possible. &nbsp,

All supermarket owners who generate more than S$ 100 million ( US$ 77.2 million ) are required to charge at least 5 cents for each disposable carrier bag under the law. Since July 2023, this was in effect.

FairPrice, Cold Storage, Giant, Sheng Siong, Prime Supermarket, and Don Donki are just a few examples of these major stores.

Big retailer operators make up about two-thirds of Singapore’s total supermarkets in 2023, or about 400.

Prior to the law’s implementation, Don Don Donki stores used to charge 10 cents for each cheap case, but it changed to 5 cents per bag regardless of size to keep things legal.

The Chinese retailer announced that it would cease selling plastic sacks at its 17 Singaporean locations in October 2024. &nbsp,
