NONG KHAI: A 23-year-old Chinese woman was detained at the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge’s border checkpoint after attempting to sneak 137, 000 ecstasy pills, which are worth about 55 million ringgit, into the country.

A cooperative team stopped a Toyota Vios with Chinese membership sheets driven by Namvane Ketbounchanh on Sunday afternoon for a strange evaluation, according to customs officers from Nong Khai’s specific task force yesterday. Officers discovered two black shoulder bags and a backpack with ecstasy hidden in the spare tire compartment while conducting a search of the vehicle.

A Lao man allegedly hired the suspect to deliver the drugs to a Nong Khai department store parking lot. She claimed that the delivery would be paid in 10,000 Baht.

The seized drugs were also handed over to the Nong Khai police for prosecution, along with Ms. Namvane.
