Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, the chancellor of labor, has set an ambitious goal to prevent serious workplace accidents and work-related fatalities.
The chancellor on Thursday unveiled the” Safety Thailand” perspective to reduce serious work-related wounds from 2.13 staff at the moment to no more than one per 1,000 employees, and mortality from 5.3 to a maximum of three per 100, 000 workers by 2030, at the start of National Occupational Safety Day 2025, which was observed on May 10.
He claimed that safety at work is a fundamental proper as well as a constitutional right.
Safety standards may increase in tandem with this, he said, in a time when AI and digital technology are quickly altering organizations. We may make sure that innovations don’t value the lives of people.
More than 300 people, including representatives from the International Labour Organization ( ILO ), government officials, business leaders, students, and national safety networks, were present at the event.
The secretary outlined the proactive measures taken by the government, which include strict legal enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and provincial security networks.
Additionally, Mr. Phiphat emphasized the need to be prepared for unforeseen threats, such as those involving machinery-related collisions and natural disasters like earthquakes and floods.
He claimed that “reactioning after the fact” and daily drills and clearly defined crisis systems are much more effective.
He even addressed unrepeated incidents in road construction projects, particularly along Rama II Road. He claimed that he had directed the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to concentrate on security measures. To put safety measures into place, the ministry met on April 2 with job owners, companies, and health experts. To ensure that structural design complies with engineering standards, a task force on construction safety was established.
