71-year-old man jailed for sexual assault during ‘ritual’ to remove ‘black magic’

SINGAPORE: A 71-year-old man who sexually assaulted a woman on the pretext of healing her from “black magic” was jailed for six years and eight months on Thursday ( Jan 23 ).

Mohamed Salleh Samad pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse against the 46-year-old prey, with a second similar cost taken into consideration.

The victim suffered from stomach cramping and discomfort in her belly and lower back, which she believed was because her ex-husband had cast “black secret” on her.

An encounter of the victim told her that his friend, Salleh, may help.

Salleh had recently told this encounter that he helped to treat illness and discomfort, and had given him” therapy” to relieve back pain.

The target agreed to view Salleh. She underwent a second “ritual” at her apartment on Aug 25, 2023, which involved showering in water mixed with salt and vinegar.

When the woman continued to experience discomfort, she asked Salleh to come back for a minute “ritual”.

Around 2. 30pm on Aug 28, 2023, Salleh and the defendant’s friendship went to her house. The defendant’s husband and children were also house.

Salleh started the “ritual” by asking the woman to lie on the floor of the existing space. He touched her chest and removed fingers from his lips, claiming they came from her.

At some point, he asked the encounter to go to a Chinese medical shop to buy anything.

He also asked the victim’s husband and children to keep the smooth, claiming he did not want to frighten them.

Salleh did this so he could be alone with the victim in the smooth, Deputy Public Prosecutors Joseph Gwee and Grace Teo said.

The victim’s daughter did not want to leave her family only, but relented after the prey suggested putting the “ritual” on hang while her husband and children went out to eat.

The victim was next alone in the flat with Salleh. Somewhere around 4. 45pm, she felt slight and semi-conscious.

While she was in this position, Salleh sexually assaulted her in the living space.

The victim’s encounter therefore returned to the product. Salleh lied to the target that there was something in her brain, and asked if she was secure for him to eliminate it.

The prey was under the assumption that this was important for the “black secret” to be lifted, and agreed to allow Salleh do so, the prosecutors said.

Believing it was part of the “ritual”, she did as Salleh said and went into her room.

With the bathroom door closed, Salleh sexually assaulted her once. He pretended to be removing fibers and fabric from her brain.

Around 6. 30pm, he opened the door and told the defendant’s encounter the “ritual” was finished. The target finally called her home to return home.

The girl realised that Salleh’s deeds were inappropriate after confiding in a companion, and made a police report.

When confronted over the affair, Salleh admitted that he performed the “rituals” while knowing they did not treat the female of the pain she felt.

The trial sought six years and eight months to seven years and two months in jail.

As Salleh is above 50 and cannot be caned, their proposed word included two weeks in lieu of four stroke of the wood.

The prosecution argued that Salleh’s dishonesty was complex. He took steps to ensure he was alone with the sufferer.

He also admitted that the” procedures” were a hoax, and that he bought fingers and yarn to mislead the victim that he was removing these things from her body.

Salleh was represented by Mr Nakoorsha A K, Ms Michelle Tang and Ms Rasveen Kaur from Nakoorsha Law Corporation, under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme.

The army lawyers asked for six to six-and-a-half times ‘ prison. They highlighted Salleh’s first plea of grief, his grief and his assistance with studies.

They said that Salleh was “generally a plain man” who studied until the equivalent of Major 5 or Primary 6, until he had to cut out as he could no longer manage to go to college.

Salleh was old and weak, and suffered from heart condition, they added.

The consequence for sexual abuse by insertion is a prison term of up to 20 years, and a good or punishment.
