SINGAPORE: A 61-year-old man who was arrested after a slashing at a Pasir Ris shopping mall will be charged with attempted murder on Thursday (Dec 21).
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 61-year-old man had allegedly armed himself with a chopper and attacked the three victims,” said the police in a news release on Thursday.
The parties involved were known to each other and were not on friendly terms. The chopper was seized as a case exhibit.
The police were called to the incident at Pasir Ris West Plaza on Wednesday afternoon, where they found a 46-year-old man and two women, aged 53 and 55, conscious with slash wounds. All three were taken to the hospital.
The 61-year-old man was arrested at the scene for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. He was found with injuries sustained during the attack and taken semi-conscious to the hospital.
The offence of attempted murder carries a punishment of life imprisonment and caning, or imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine or caning, or both.
Those aged 50 years and above cannot be sentenced to caning.
