6 people injured after 2 shophouses partially collapse at Syed Alwi Road; loud blast heard

Six people were hurt when two two two-story shophouse units partially collapsed on Syed Alwi Road on Tuesday ( Oct 8 ) in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) announced in a Twitter post on Tuesday that it had been informed of an incident involving the two units at 84 and 85 Mian Alwi Road, which is located in the Little India region, at around 1.30 am.

“SCDF soon began a search of the area to see if anyone was trapped beneath the dust upon arrival.” To enhance the search operation, SCDF added,” Two research puppies and a helicopter were also deployed.”

A man was unable to leave the second floor of the damaged shophouse device because of a blocked staircase. Firefighters used a ladder to rescue them from 84 Mian Alwi Road. &nbsp,

A fire system was used to use its waters mist spray function as a precautionary measure to disperse any possible buildup of flammable gases after some witnesses reported hearing a loud fire during the incident.

No one was found trapped under the dust, said SCDF.

According to investigations on Google Maps, 84 Mian Alwi Road houses Paakashala Singapore, a meatless cafe, while No 85 properties Nirja Mega Mart.

Two folks were evaluated by doctors for minor wounds and taken to the hospital. Four more patients declined to get hospitalized after receiving small injury assessment.

As of about 7am, SCDF said it is still at the scene of the incident.
