10 dead as landslide hits passing cars on Indonesia’s Java island

SURABAYA: Indonesian volunteers recovered 10 body after a disaster struck cars on a steep path on the government’s main island of Java, authorities said on Friday ( Apr 4).

Heavy rains pushed dirt, rocks and trees down the mountainside street on Thursday, burying a vehicle with seven people aboard and a delivery vehicle with three traders and full of vegetables near Watu Lumpang, a beach location in East Java’s Mojokerto district, said local police chief Andi Yudha Pranata.

Pranata said firefighters pulled out the body of the truck’s driver later Thursday and his six community people, including three kids, wife and parents, were retrieved on Friday, together with the body of the three traders.
