Vietnam offers amnesty to 20 foreign prisoners, including Chinese, US citizens

HANOI: &nbsp, Vietnam will free nearly 3, 800 prisoners including foreigners in the country’s latest amnesty, the government said on Monday ( Sep 30 ).

Since 2009, Vietnam has made nine specific provisions, allowing more than 92, 000 prisoners to be released without the use of social activists.

Those convicted for “attempting to topple” the socialist government or “terrorism” are not ready for launch, according to Monday’s standard asylum news.

This time, 3, 765 inmates will get released including around 20 immigrants from Cambodia, China, Iceland, India, Laos, South Africa and the United States.

In a belated walk following Vietnam’s Sep 2 National Day, they are anticipated to be released on Tuesday.

The parole comes after the first discharge mid-September of two high-profile prisoners, as the government’s best chief To Lam headed to the US.

Hoang Thi Minh Hong, a member of CHANGE, was serving a three-year prison term for duty avoidance related crimes.

Political rebel Tran Huynh Duy Thuc, a web entrepreneur, was given a 16-year prison sentence in 2010 for supposedly trying to overthrow the government.

On Monday, authorities on the ground refused to disclose the number of prisoners in full that are currently being held.

In August, officials said around 643 immigrants are serving prison term in Vietnam.

More than 160 political detainees are currently incarcerated, according to Human Rights Watch.
