US will continue Taiwan-friendly approach after election, senior Taiwan official says

A senior Taiwanese security official stated on Wednesday ( Nov. 6 ) that the United States would keep its friendly stance toward Taiwan and that Taiwan would work to stop China from “making trouble” during the transition.

Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president of the United States, is neck-and-neck with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the elections. He has also claimed that Taiwan may pay to be protected, and that the area has been accused of stealing American semiconductor companies.

Democratically-governed Taiwan, which China views as its own country, has faced a sustained military force battle from Beijing over the past five decades, including four big shells of warfare games in the past two decades.

Speaking to reporters in legislature, Taiwan National Security Bureau Director-General Tsai Ming-yen noted the election’s result was still unknown.

We think that the United States will continue to pursue its existing strategy of imposing China and being a helpful neighbor to Taiwan, he said.

Taiwan will keep in touch with the current administration while “in the next phase,” focusing on important issues for assistance, and work with international associates to exchange information on China’s objectives and military actions, Tsai added.

He said,” This is to stop the Chinese communists from profiting from the US government’s transition and from creating problems during the transition.”

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office did not respond to a request for comment right away.

Taiwan’s authorities rejects China’s sovereignty claims, saying just the island’s people may choose their future.

Even in the lack of proper diplomatic relations, the United States is Taiwan’s most significant global supporter and supplier of arms.
