WASHINGTON: US , Vice President Kamala Harris cancelled her upcoming trip to Singapore, Bahrain and Germany due to the ongoing wildfires in California, the White House said on Thursday ( Jan 9 ) after President Joe Biden made a similar decision a day earlier.
Biden postponed a scheduled visit to Italy where he was supposed to meet with Pope Francis, President of Italy Sergio Mattarella, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
” In response to the ancient fire in Los Angeles, the Vice President has made the decision to withdraw her and the Minute Gentleman’s future trip to Singapore, Bahrain, and Germany”, the White House said on Thursday.
Harris, who is from California, is likely to have had her previous as vice president before stepping down on January 20.
Los Angeles is currently facing the worst fires in its past, which have claimed the lives of five people, caused the evacuation of 180, 000 people, and wiped out 12, 500 acres.
On Thursday evening, Biden met with senior management figures to examine the national response after declaring a major disaster in California.
