US delegation arrives in Taiwan, President Lai Ching-te extends goodwill to China after drills

Speaking at a meeting of his ruling Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP ) in the southern city of Tainan, Lai called on China to” share the heavy responsibility of regional stability with Taiwan”, according to comments provided by his party.

Lai, who won the election in January, said he even “looked forth to enhancing common understanding and peace with China via markets and assistance, creating mutual benefit and moving towards a place of serenity and frequent prosperity”.

He thanked the US and other locations for their expressions of worry about the Chinese activities.

” The global community does not take any nation creating ripples in the Taiwan Strait and affecting local security,” Lai added.

The second group of US lawmakers to visit Taiwan since Lai took office arrived on the island on Sunday for a four-day attend, led by Michael McCaul, the Republican chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

McCaul, joined by a bipartisan group of five different politicians, will join Lai on Monday morning to “exchange opinions on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific”, Taiwan’s political department said.

” Taiwan is a flourishing democracy. The US will continue to stand by our unwavering partner and work to maintain the status quo across the Taiwan Strait,” McCaul said in a speech.
