Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC has been granted a waiver extension by the US to provide US chip equipment to its Chinese factories, according to Taiwan Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua on Friday( Oct 13 ).
The Biden administration released a comprehensive set of export restrictions in October, including restricting China’s access to some semiconductor chips produced globally using US tools. This move greatly widened the scope of the pay to impede Chinese military and technological advancements.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix may be permitted to provide US chip products to their China companies indefinitely without independent US approvals, the South Korean government announced this week.
The largest lease chip manufacturer in the world, TSMC, announced last year that it had received a one-year authorization from the US covering its factory in Nanjing, China, which produces less-developed 28-nanometre cards.
Wang did not provide specifics, but she stated to the media that she understood the discharge improvement had also been extended for TSMC.
Further inquiries from her government were forwarded to TSMC, but a remark request was not promptly answered. Before releasing its third-quarter income on Thursday, the company is in a calm period.
