As the island is under increasing military pressure from China, Taiwanese officials announced on Friday ( Mar 21 ) that it will offer pay raises to some service members in an effort to combat manpower shortages.
Beijing has threatened to apply pressure on Taiwan, which it claims to be a political state, to bring it under control.
Since President Lai Ching-te took workplace in Taipei next year, it has conducted numerous significant military activities around the area and often deploys fighter planes and warships.
Lai made the pay increases during a visit to a military base in the money on Friday and pledged to “keep taking care of the hard-working officers and soldiers from all factors.”
