Singapore doubles renewable electricity imports through regional power project, with added supply from Malaysia
Through a four-nation energy initiative, Singapore may improve its ability to transfer power from Laos and Malaysia.
Singapore currently imports up to 100 megawatts ( MW) of renewable energy from Laos through a cross-border initiative called the , Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project ( LTMS-PIP ).
This will increase to a maximum of 200MW , of solar electricity, with stockpile from Malaysia as effectively.
The Energy Market Authority ( EMA ) and Keppel announced this in a joint media release , on Friday ( Sep 20 ), with , Keppel’s licence to , import electricity extended for another two years until 2026.
” In addition to being able to import electricity from Lao PDR, Keppel will be importing electricity from Malaysia” , , the media release stated.
The LTMS-PIP, launched in June 2022, is the first collaboration , among the four ASEAN part says on international cross-border light exchanging of solar power.
Keppel and Laos ‘ state-owned Electricite du Laos signed an original two-year power purchase agreement to import and use existing equipment to import up to 100 MW of renewable electricity via Thailand and Malaysia.

According to EMA and Keppel,” The LTMS-PIP is essential to supporting continued efforts to advance the ASEAN Economic Community and the Power Grid,” said EMA and Keppel.
The strengthened LTMS-PIP will increase grid resilience and encourage energy inclusion to meet the rising energy demand in the region by opening up opportunities for international and multidimensional trading in the area.
