Malaysia preparing to join BRICS economic group, media report says

In an interview with the Chinese media shop Guancha, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia is preparing to meet the emerging nations ‘ BRICS party.

The BRICS group of nations formerly included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which gave it the word.

The group next time began to expand its account as it looks to issue a world order dominated by American markets, with Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates joining and more than 40 locations expressing attention.

According to a video of the interview posted by Guancha on Sunday ( Jun 16 ),” We have made a decision, we will be placing the formal procedures soon,” Mr. Anwar said.

On Tuesday, a member from Mr. Anwar’s office confirmed his remarks to Reuters.

During the meeting, he did not provide more information on the application process.

In preparation for the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China, Mr. Anwar made the comments back of Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s three-day attend this year.

Malaysia and China are expected to conclude a number of agreements during Mr. Li’s attend, including renewing a five-year trade and economic cooperation deal.

However, among Southeast Asian nations, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia have recently expressed interest in joining the trade ally while Vietnam had said they were” carefully monitoring the process of BRICS account development”.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo made it clear that his state was “reviewing and considering the government’s prospect of joining” the party after taking part in a BRICS conference in August of last year, according to a state speech.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated earlier in January that she is still considering joining the business empire and is considering the benefits of joining, adding that they will not rush the process.

” Our foreign policy is usually properly considered. No choices are only made ( without careful consideration ). So, for now, Indonesia is also studying the gains that can be gained from joining BRICS”, she reportedly said.

However, the Thai Cabinet next month approved a state draft text that indicated Bangkok’s goal to become a member of BRICS, South China Morning Post reported.
