Some Indonesia lawmakers eye removing central bank governor, Tempo magazine reports

According to analytical magazine Tempo, some members of Indonesia’s congress plan to introduce to the president replace the central bank governor because they believe he was not properly supporting the government’s policy, citing unknown sources.

The government approved fresh regulations earlier this month for the assessment and termination of public officials, including those appointed by the legislature and those who serve as judges in high courts and are in charge of organizations like the police, the military, and the anti-corruption commission.

Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the deputy speaker of parliament and top part of President Prabowo Subianto’s group, told Reuters that there was no intention to sack the governor of the central banks.

Some members of the group, including many members of Prabowo’s coalition and a nearby aide, did not use the new regulation to ask the president to remove Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, according to Tempo, who said the new regulation would be used by them.

” Perry ( Warjiyo ) was considered to be not cooperative regarding’ burden sharing’, or cooperating with the government to handle economic problems”, Tempo wrote, without identifying a policy that the governor was said to be not supporting.
