Six newborns killed in fire at India baby hospital

NEW DELHI :  Six newborn babies have died after a fire tore through a children’s hospital in the Indian capital, with people charging into the flames to rescue the infants, police said on Sunday ( May 26 ).

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the blaze and murders “heart-rending” in a post on social media.

The fire division was called after flames tore through the doctor in Delhi later Saturday night.

But in the critical first moments, it was spectators who spotted the hearth and braved the flame to save the newborns.

” All the 12 newborn babies were rescued from the doctor with the help of other persons,” senior police officer Surendra Choudhary said in a speech, but added that by the time they reached skilled attention, six were useless.

The incident in the medical broke out hours after a separate fire at an amusement park in India’s northern state of Gujarat left 27 dying, including four children.

In that fireplace- which ripped through a center with a bowling alley and various games crowded with youngsters- police warned that many of the corpses were but badly scorched it was difficult to identify them.

Burns are common in India due to poor building techniques, overcrowding and a lack of commitment to safety rules.
