Singapore steps up emissions requirements for foreign vehicles entering country

As the officials announce plans to tighten regulations to protect heat quality, older international motorcycles will soon be prohibited on Singapore’s roads. Meanwhile, international business diesel vehicles must meet a lower dust emission level.

From Jul 1, 2028, foreign- registered motorcycles registered in their home country before Jul 1, 2003, will be barred from entering Singapore, the National Environment Agency ( NEA ) said on Monday ( Jul 1 ). &nbsp,

Old native motorcycles from Singapore’s highways were previously prohibited by NEA in a similar need starting in 2018 because they typically cause more waste than those that adhere to the newer Euro emissions standards.

” This condition will now be extended to overseas- registered scooters”, said NEA.

” European motorcyclists entering Singapore are required to employ motorcycles that are registered on or after July 1, 2003 and that also adhere to Singapore’s in-use output standards.”

LOWER EMISSIONS THRESHOLD

Older unusual motorcycles are no longer permitted under the regulations announced on Monday to limit automotive emissions because they contain contaminants that could affect respiratory health.

Additionally, NEA stated that starting on April 1, 2026, the boundary for returning international business diesel vehicles to Singapore will be increased to 50 HSU.

The smoke emissions from diesel vehicles are measured in Hartridge Smoke Units ( HSU).

A nearby or unusual commercial diesel vehicle’s smoke emissions are already subject to a composition fine.

A foreign corporate diesel vehicle that has smoke levels of 60 or higher will be turned up at Singapore’s land checkpoints and prohibited from entering the country.

According to NEA,” The changed turnback level of 50 Chang is in line with the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Cooperation of Goods in Transit.”
