Serena Williams, playing in what is likely the ultimate tennis tournament of her storied career, opened singles get a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Danka Kovinić in the very first round of the US Open on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Williams will open up doubles play with her sister Venus on Wednesday.

But earlier on the court, Williams, 40, said it had been a difficult decision to maneuver on.
“I believe when you’re interested in something and you enjoy something so much, it is always hard to walk away, ” she mentioned. “Sometimes I think it’s hard to walk away than to not. That’s been the situation for me. ”
When asked by Gayle King what winning will be for her later on, Williams pointed with her venture capital company and also said she would like to work on her religious life.
Williams’ public win was witnessed by her hubby, Alexis Ohanian, plus their daughter, Olympia, with the youngster putting on white beads in her hair, reminiscent of Williams’ look whenever she won the very first of her 6 US Open game titles as a teenager it happened in 1999.
