Putin greets China’s Xi at Kremlin

Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday ( May 8 ) for talks in Moscow that Moscow hopes will give the Russian leader a boost as a result of their crucial engagement in the conflict with Ukraine.

Putin and Xi shook arms in front of the cameras before moving along a red carpet to the opposite end of one of the Kremlin’s most lavish rooms to watch the play of the national anthems from China and Russia.

Xi is one of more than 20 international leaders who will be making a trip to Moscow this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War Two’s finish. The activities are occurring at a crucial time in the conflict with Ukraine as Moscow and Kyiv are under US force to attain a peace agreement.

Less than three months before Putin sent his troops into Ukraine, Xi, whose nation is at odds with the United States, is expected to sign several agreements to strengthen the” no limits” corporate partnership.

Russia’s biggest dealing partner, China, has given it a crutch financial lifeline that has helped it avoid American sanctions. Russia purchases more oil and gas from China than from any other nation.
