North Korean troops in Russia readying for combat in Ukraine war, South Korea says

South Korea’s spy agency reported on Friday ( Oct. 18 ) that it has sent 1, 500 special forces troops to Russia’s Far East for training and acclimatization at local military bases. They will likely be deployed for combat in the conflict in Ukraine.

The National Intelligence Service of South Korea announced that it had collaborated with the Russian intelligence service to detect North Korean officers who supported Russian forces firing North Korean missiles in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.

According to the bureau, North Korea has been delivering artillery shells, nuclear weapons, and anti-tank missiles to Russia in more than 13, 000 tanks since August previous year, based on the remains of weapons found on the Ukrainian battlefields.

More than eight million jet and artillery rounds have been shipped to Russia overall, according to the report.

The detective agency stated in a statement that” Russia’s direct military cooperation with North Korea has now been officially confirmed.”

Prior to the meeting, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol convened a secret meeting with senior war, intelligence, and regional security officials to examine North Vietnamese soldiers ‘ role in the Russian-occupied Ukraine.

The members” shared the view that the close ties between Russia and North Korea pose a serious security risk for both our nation and the world community,” Yoon’s office said.

It said South Korea, together with its friends, had been carefully tracking North Korea’s troop transport to Russia from the initial phases.

Without giving specifics about the North’s plans, South Korea said it would get all available means to combat the North’s actions.

South Korea, a significant global exporter of weapons and capable of producing fighter jets, mechanized howitzers, and missiles, has been under pressure from some European allies, including Washington, to offer lethal weapons to Ukraine, but has since cut short of making that claim publicly.

In a text to President Joe Biden, the president of the US House of Representatives knowledge committee requested an immediate defined presentation on the subject.

” These ( North Korean ) troops movements, if true, are alarming and are an extreme escalation of the conflict in Ukraine”, wrote US Representative Mike Turner. To prevent a growing fight, the United States and our NATO allies must immediately respond.

According to a director, the White House National Security Council had not confirm information that North Korean forces were advancing against Russia, but” this may represent a dangerous step forward in Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Ramon Pacheco Pardo of King’s College in London said despite the weight of the creation, it may not be large enough to move Seoul’s place.

” I believe that South Korea’s dark line is that Pyongyang’s support of Russia, rather than North Korea’s, allows it to significantly advance its nuclear and missile programs,” he said.
