North Korean leader Kim to meet Putin in Russia this month: Report

WASHINGTON: According to the New York Times on Monday( Sep 4 ) citing US and allied sources, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un intends to visit Russia this month to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the possibility of supplying weapons for the war in Ukraine.

According to the news, Kim would go from Pyongyang to Vladivostok, on the Pacific Coast of Russia, where he would meet Putin, most likely by armoured station.

A request for comment was not instantly answered by the White House.

Following Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s attempt to persuade Pyongyang to market Russia artillery ammunition during a visit to North Korea, the planned trip may occur as Russia discussed holding joint military exercises with the country.

The US has previously forewarned that North Korea might give Russia, whose troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022, more arms. Moscow refers to this conflict as a” unique military activity” and the US and its Western allies fiercely oppose it.

John Kirby, a White House regional security official, stated on August 30 that the United States was troubled that active hands negotiations between the two nations were taking place.
