SEOUL:  , North , Korea , said on Saturday ( Feb 8 ) its nuclear weapons are not meant for negotiations but are intended for combat use against enemies that threaten its people and world peace, its state media reported.
The declaration comes after United States President , Donald Trump , hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House on Friday. The two leaders expressed their determination to ensuring North , Korea , ends its nuclear weapons programme.
Instead of mentioning the US and Japanese leaders ‘ meeting, KCNA cited allegedly repeated requests for a complete denuclearization of North , Korea, made by officials from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO ) and the European Union.
Our atomic weapons are not an ad to win anyone’s respect, and they are not yet a bargaining chip to be exchanged for some money, KCNA said in a statement.
Our nuclear forces are intended for unwavering battle use to quickly overthrow any attempts by army forces to violate our nation’s independence, the health of our citizens, and threaten international peace, it said.
North , Korea , has not responded immediately to efforts from Trump to resume touch with its head Kim Jong Un and instead stressed its intent to “bolster” its nuclear forces.
Trump said on Friday he” may have relationships with North , Korea , and with Kim Jong Un”, adding he had a good friendship with Kim. The two held extraordinary mountain sessions during Trump’s second president.
Trump declared the North a “nuclear authority” on January 20 when he was in office for his second term, raising questions about whether he would engage in negotiations to reduce nuclear weapons rather than denuclearize them.
The two leaders “reaffirmed their steadfast dedication to the complete denuclearization of North , Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and expressed their major concerns over and the need to tackle North , Korea’s nuclear and missile plans,” according to a joint declaration by Trump and Ishiba released following their discussions.
