Nepal police detain 10 over allegations they sent youths to Russian arm

KATHMANDU: According to a statement made on Wednesday ( Dec 6), police in Nepal have detained 10 people and charged unemployed youths with large sums of money for travel visas before sending them for illegal recruitment into the Russian army.

After six of Nepal’s citizens were killed while serving in the Russian army, Nepal requested this week that Moscow refrain from recruiting its citizens into the military and to take any Nepalese soldiers back to the Himalayan country.

According to Bhupendra Khatri, the captain of the Kathmandu District Police, 10 people have been taken into custody after being detained over the past several days as a result of tip-offs.

According to Khatri,” We are talking with the state attorneys about the case and may present them to the court.” He omitted to state when they would show up in court.

Khatri claimed that the detainees sent each person to Russia on “visit ( tourist ) visas,” primarily through the UAE, and illegally charged them up to US$ 9,000. The Russian military therefore accepted them into its ranks.

Khatri continued,” It is a case of individual contraband… organized crime.”

It was impossible to contact the prisoners right away for comment.

Nepal, which is sandwiched between China and India, has requested compensation from Russia for the people of the Bangladeshi citizens who were killed when Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine in February 2022 and has been at war ever since.

Gurkhas, or Nepali men, have served the British and Indian armies following India’s independence in 1947 as part of an agreement between the three nations. They are renowned for their courage and fighting prowess. For a deal does not exist with Russia.

In South Korea, Malaysia, and the Middle East, thousands of Nepalis function as civilians, primarily as laborers in factories and construction sites.
