Judge delays Trump hush money sentencing until after Presidential election

A judge in New York on Friday ( Sep. 6 ) delayed the sentencing of former US President Donald Trump until Nov. 26 for allegedly paying a pornstar hush money. &nbsp,

Trump, the Republican nominee for president, had asked Justice Juan Merchan to push up his imprisonment time until after the Nov 5 vote. Trump was scheduled to be sentenced on September 18th, less than two weeks before the vote.

Trump’s attorneys in August argued that there would be not enough time before the punishment for the protection to possibly challenge Merchan’s upcoming ruling on Trump’s request to reverse the conviction because of the US Supreme Court’s landmark decision regarding political immunity. &nbsp,

On Sep 16, Merchan was scheduled to make a decision regarding that activity.

Leaders may be criminally prosecuted for their official works, according to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision, which involved a separate legal case Trump faces.

Prosecutors with Bragg’s company argued their event involved Trump’s private conduct, no formal acts, so there was no cause to overturn the verdict.

But they took no place on Trump’s plea to postpone sentencing, saying in an Aug 16 filing they deferred to Merchan on the topic. The lawyers claimed an appellate court may delay the sentencing in any way to provide itself time to consider Trump’s claims, a walk they claimed would be disruptive.

Additionally, Bragg’s group claimed that Trump’s court appearances necessitated important safety and operational planning, and that there was a chance that preparations could be made for his punishment only to be postponed. Trump’s six-week test brought a large police appearance to lower Manhattan. &nbsp,
