Indonesia wants to join BRICS, ministry says

President Prabowo Subianto, who took office on Sunday, has stressed consistently that he will meet all countries, become they China or the United States, and that Indonesia will not be joining any defense union.

Sugiono added BRICS suit Prabowo’s key government programs “especially with regards to food and energy protection, hunger destruction, and the advancement of human resources”, adding that Indonesia sees the team as a “vehicle” to further the interests of the global south.

More than 30 nations had expressed interest in joining the BRICS, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose plans for the rise were unavoidable.

Recent members include Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
