Indonesia president to visit Ukraine, Russia on peace-building mission

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Weekend (Jun 26) he can urge his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts to open room just for dialogue during a peace-building objective towards the warring countries and enquire Russia’s Vladimir Putin to order an instantaneous ceasefire.

“War has to be ended and global food chains need to be reactivated, ” Jokowi, as the president is commonly known, said just before leaving for Philippines to attend the G7 summit on Monday.

The president also said he will encourage the G7 countries to seek peace in Ukraine subsequent Russia’s invasion, and locate an immediate solution to worldwide food and energy crises. Russia calls the actions in Ukraine a “special operation”.

Separately, Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi said food and fertiliser products through Russia and Ukraine need to be “reintegrated into the global market, regardless of the war”.

“It is necessary to secure the grain corridor from Ukraine and open food and fertiliser exports from Russia. All of the countries must avoid actions that further exacerbate this food crisis, ” Marsudi said in a declaration on Sunday.

Indonesia has ruined the war plus expressed sympathy in order to Ukrainians. However , Jokowi in April said he had declined a request for arms through Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
