According to federal officials, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working on more price reductions ahead of his conference with US President Donald Trump to raise Indian exports to India and prevent a possible trade war.
Trump plans to announce reciprocal tariffs on many nations with the aim of reshaping global trade relationships in favor of the United States as part of Modi’s trip to the US on Wednesday ( 12 February ) and Thursday.
Trump has not specified which nations will be affected, but he has recently called India a “very large abuser” of trade and called for more American-made protection equipment to help the two countries establish a good diplomatic trading relationship.
India is considering tax cuts in at least a few areas, including electric, medical and surgical equipment, along with some substances, to increase US exports. According to three state leaders, these reductions go against New Delhi’s local manufacturing plans.
According to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, concessions are being considered for items like wood fiber and dish antennas that India mostly obtains from the US or has the ability to purchase. Next year, Modi and Trump are expected to talk about taxes, and India is open to discussing a potential mini-trade deal.
A third national stated that the first visit is motivated to prevent a” trade war-like situation” between the US and China. Trump imposed extensive 10 % tariffs on Chinese imports, causing Beijing to impose duties on American power in response.
