Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) won 240 seats on its own, or 32 short of half the 543 members in parliament’s lower house, but formed the government, as his 15-party National Democratic Alliance ( NDA ) won 293 seats.
The criticism INDIA empire led by Gandhi’s moderate Congress party won 230 votes. On its own, Congress came out on top 99.
The Election Commission did never respond to the questions.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded by saying that Gandhi was attempting to improve the picture of the country, which he had attempted to portray as disloyal.
” According to being defeated continuously for the next day, anti-BJP… anti-Modi views have taken root in his mind”, Chouhan told reporters.
” He is constantly trying to vilify the image of the state, which is equivalent to treachery”.
In the weeks before the vote, Gandhi’s Congress party received income tax notices, seeking payment of about 35 billion rupees ( US$ 417 million ), which it described at the time as politically motivated.
It was later given until after the vote to handle the payments.
Since Modi won strength in 2014, Congress and some friends in the opposition alliance have made accusations that voting machines had been hacked in previous elections that were not completely free.
The Election Commission has claimed in open protestations that its methods are secure and cannot be harmed. Additionally, requests for a return to the old system of voting were rejected by India’s Supreme Court.
