Sanjay Kumar Verma, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, told the Globe and Mail in an interview that was published on Saturday( Nov 4 ,) that the police investigation into the June murder of a Sikh separatist in British Columbia has been harmed by high-level Canadian officials’ public statements.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a French citizen and the head of the Sikh separatist movement, was killed in Vancouver suburbs, and Canada has claimed that India was involved in his murder. India refutes the claim.
Verma told the paper,” I’d go one step further and say that the investigation is now tainted.” ” One at a high level has given the order to say that India or American officials are behind it.”
Verma did not identify the senior standard. ” Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Indian government” and Nijjar’s death ,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on September 18.
A political dispute has arisen between the two nations as a result of the event. Following Canada’s claims regarding the killing of Nijjar, New Delhi in September asked Ottawa to scale back its political existence. Canada withdrew 41 officials from India.
According to Verma, neither Canada nor Canada’s friends have provided India with any concrete proof that American agents were involved in the murder of Nijjar.
Despite the tense relations between the two nations, he claimed, India would like to strengthen business relationships and resume the negotiation process for a trade agreement.
Three weeks after the two countries stated they aimed to mark an initial contract this time, Canada halted talks on a proposed business treaty with India in September.
