E-commerce firm Shopee to adjust services in Indonesia after antitrust violation

E-commerce company Shopee announced on Wednesday ( Jun 26 ) that it would make changes to its services in Indonesia following the country’s antitrust agency’s claim that the platform had admitted to breaking anti-monopoly laws.

KPPU, the antitrust body in Indonesia, claimed in a statement that Shopee had admitted to breaking anti-competitive laws by directing users to specific supply solutions after being accused of the breaches next month.

” Shopee is usually committed to complying with all appropriate regulations and laws in the Republic of Indonesia in conducting our company functions”, Radynal Nataprawira, Shopee Indonesia’s Head of Public Affairs said in a statement.

Shopee added that it had suggested making changes to the user program to show compliance with providing the best services to its users and in accordance with KPPU’s recommendations.

Shopee, the business head in Indonesia’s quick- growing e- commerce sector, is owned by South Asian technology strong Sea Ltd.

Along with Shopee, KPPU has been looking into the nearby division of Lazada, the Southeast Asian division of Alibaba, into another e-commerce system.
