Chinese sports official urges caution over supplements after swim doping saga

A best Chinese activities official has urged caution when handling food, medicines, and nutritional supplements to prevent” slip-ups” after China’s swim group was heavily scrutinized at the Paris Olympics due to its track record for cheating.

Chinese athletes should “earn respect through strength and integrity,” Liu Guoyong, the deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, said on Wednesday ( Aug 21 ), the official China Daily reported.

Since it was revealed in April that 23 rowers had tested good for a prohibited heart medicines in 2021 but were still able to compete in the Tokyo Olympics that month, China’s swim team has been under increased attention.

An independent review supported WADA’s handling of the case, and the findings of a Chinese investigation led to an acceptance by the World Anti-Doping Agency ( WADA ) that the results were the result of a hotel kitchen contamination.

” We must be careful, especially when it comes to the management of food, healthcare, and health products,” Liu said at a convention for Chinese Olympians ahead of the Paris Paralympic Games on August 28 to Sep 8.

There is no room for error, and we have to make sure any sudden use situations are nipped in the flower.

According to Liu, players may have to deal with issues beyond their performances and technological preparations, including “unique difficulties, including disruptions and interferences from European powers at the approaching Paris Games.”

Pan Zhanle, who won 100m free silver in Paris and set a world record, claimed he had more than 20 doping tests in the months leading up to the Games.

On Tuesday, China’s President Xi Jinping praised the Chinese Olympic committee for upholding high requirements of “morality, fashion, and cleaning” in their quest for gold at the Paris Olympics.
