China’s Xi Jinping meets Australian PM Albanese in Beijing

BEIJING: Following years of hostilities that reduced billions of dollars in trade, Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Beijing on Monday( Nov 6 ), according to state media.

Beijing is Canberra’s largest trading partner, but relations deteriorated in 2020 as a result of an investigation into the roots of COVID-19 and the then-conservative government of Australia barring Chinese tech giant Huawei from 5G agreements.

Then, as the connection descended into a serious ice, an incensed Beijing imposed punitive tariffs on an array of American commodities, including coal, grain, and wine.

However, since Albanese came to power in May of last year, China has changed its course, lifting the majority of its trade restrictions with Australia and declaring that it wants” healthful and secure” relationships.

They met on Monday evening, according to Beijing’s state media company, Xinhua. It did not offer any additional information.

Albanese, the first American president to travel to China in more than seven years, foresaw a” creative conversation” with Xi and claimed to have seen” promising indicators” that ties were improving prior to their speaks in Beijing.

He said,” We’ve already seen a number of the barriers to commerce between our two governments removed.”

China is” our most significant buying mate.”

One in four of our work are dependent on our trade, and it makes up more than 25 % of all our imports. Therefore, it’s a crucial connection.

However, the Australian prime minister has previously stated that it is important to keep” clear-eyed” about the differences between the two nations and that they are not strategically aligned.

He stated on Monday that we must indulge in national attention while cooperating with China where we can and disagreeing when necessary.
