BEIJING: The US Defense Department’s monthly report on China was criticized by the Chinese defence ministry on Wednesday( Oct 25 ), claiming that it misrepresents both the military and security strategies of the nation.
The Pentagon stated in a report to US Congress outlining China’s national aspirations, including its defense policy and military strategies, that over the next ten years, the PRC did quickly modernize, extend, and increase its nuclear forces.
According to the Pentagon, China currently has more than 500 nuclear weapons and may likely include over 1,000 by 2030. Despite officially stating that the technologies are intended for quiet purposes, the report stated that China would produce plutonium for its nuclear weapons using new fast-breeder reactors and reprocessing facilities.
According to Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian, the report” exaggerates and hypes the non-existent” Taiwanese military threat ,” and” we express our powerful dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this report.”
Wu claimed that rather than focusing on any one nation or target, China’s military forces are being developed to contain the threat of war, protect its own protection, and maintain world peace.
Recently, China and the US exchanged insults over issues pertaining to international and national security, military engagements in the South China Sea, and Taiwan, which China claims as its own place.
