China, Tanzania and Zambia sign initial agreement on key railway project

Chinese state media reported on Wednesday ( Sep 4 ) that China, Tanzania, and Zambia had reached an initial agreement regarding a railroad project aimed at enhancing the rail-sea intermodal transportation network in East Africa.

President Xi Jinping and the president of Tanzania and Zambia were in Beijing to take part in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, according to radio CCTV.

According to state media, Xi stated that” China is willing to take this conference as an opportunity to create innovative progress in the stimulation of the Tanzania-Zambia railway, cooperate to strengthen the rail-sea intermodal transport network in East Africa, and create Tanzania into a demonstration zone for approving high-quality China-Africa Belt and Road cooperation,” adding that he was willing to take it as an opportunity.

The World Bank approved US$ 270 million in funding earlier this year to enhance local trade and enhance connectivity between neighboring Tanzania and Zambia.

The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority ( TAZARA ) provides services to the Dar es Salaam corridor between the two nations, which is a crucial route for copper exports from the central African Copperbelt region.

The website provides a way to pass South Africa’s logistical obstacles, which have prevented brass and chrome imports from Zambia and the Democrat Republic of Congo.
