BEIJING: China warned upon Wednesday (Jul 27) that Washington might “bear the consequences” if US Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan, with tensions soaring involving the two countries.
“We are firmly opposed to Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, ” Chinese international ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a regular press meeting.
“If the US pushes ahead and challenges China’s main point here… the US side can bear all the implications arising therefrom, inch he added.
Democratic Taiwan lives under constant danger of being invaded by China, which views the self-ruled isle as part of its area to be seized by force if necessary.
