BEIJING:  , China said on Tuesday ( May 21 ) it hoped the International Criminal Court ( ICC ) would uphold an “objective” position after a prosecutor requested arrest warrants for leaders from Israel, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the militant movement Hamas.
Karim Khan, the ICC’s counsel, announced on Monday that he had requested arrest warrants for the alleged war crimes committed by leading Israeli and Hamas leaders over their issue.
Beijing responded on Tuesday to a question about the decision, saying that was” an overwhelming consensus in the global community to instantly stop the war in Gaza and put an end to the humanitarian crisis of the Arab people.”
Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, said,” It is hoped that the ICC will defend its purpose and independent place and practice its forces in accordance with the law.”
” The shared consequence of the Arab citizens should not be continued”, he added.
Beijing “prompts a comprehensive, only, and lasting solution to the Arab matter,” Wang said, adding that” China has often stood on the side of justice and foreign law on the Arab matter.”
